Help buying my first skimboard?
keep this in mind, the cheaper you buy the crapier you results will be. I live in michigan also in rochester but i bought my skimboard for my house in miami. I'm uming you live on the lake michigan side. If you don't then buying a skimboard is pointless because trying to skim in lake saint clair is impossible at least the type of skimming im used to and lake erie, well, you can go ahead and explore the depths of the toxic dump and dead fish. As far as lake michigan goes, you really aren't going to see a huge swells so even though zap boards are good,i have an egg, you need something that is based on speed not "pop" or wave riding or "wrapping".Because you guys snowboard and longboard you guys don't need to do the bullshit experimenting. uming that you're good at both, then good for the best board FOR SANDBOARDING that you can get, ie a board made with carbon fiber and a strong epoxy with the carbon which makes the board extremely light. I would not recommend a vic board because you're not going to be focusing on huge 5-6ft swells. plus they are usually overpriced. Slostick is great for your situation. Now i no that lake michigan or any lake for that matter isn't flat land skimming but you'll be doing essentially the same tricks so look it up on youtube to help you out. I have a buddy who has the 300 series which he loves because it is extremely light. There is a new brand named syndrome which i personally love but just to be safe, i would go with a zap XL comp. Do not make the mistake of thinking a large wedge is good enough! I am 6'2 195 and if you buy a board that smaller just because its cheaper then you will SINK! and loose speed. If you want to p up zap then go with a slostik 300 series. And do not buy a wood board! They are **** and you wont be happy. Also do not buy from a shop. Im guessing its the only one in your area so they feel they can overprice the **** out of you because there's no one else. Show them who's boss and order from skim city. they are great. hoped this helped.
