Help please.?

My boyfriend decided he needed some space a few weeks ago after our 2 month relationship. It was his way of handling it that sucked. He wouldn't end the relationship so for a few weeks we went without really talking. Then finally he said he wasn't ready for a relationship, which was fine with me since he had let so much time go by. I think that upset him. Since then we have had 2 or three very heated arguments. However, a few days ago he called me crying and told me he didn't talk to me because he may have to have a surgery that is very dangerous and didn't feel like I should have to deal with that so soon in the relationship. I told him he should have told me and that everything would have been fine. Since then he has been calling me and coming over a lot. He talks like we are back together again and even asked "we are dating right"? I'm so confused. It has only been a few days but he isn't as attentive as he was before the 3 week split. Is he just using me for or??
