I need an older horror movie title by a scene description can you help?

In the movie I remember a brief scene of a lady eating the cooked remains of a dog, and another scene I can recall is a slime covered baseball with some type of writing on it cant remember if it was a "threat" or a "Ransom" note but the baseball is covered in green slime down the steps to a kid. I know its a horror movie from either the 70's or 80's.
