Would this baby name offend?

If I named my little girl after my childhood friend who ped away 3 years ago, do you think her family would feel offended or honoured? I would want to do it to honour her. I would either use it as a first name(the name is Madeleine) or perhaps a middle name (Carla Madeleine).
